Self diffusion in mixtures of charged spheres

چکیده
2014 We have used the Forced Rayleigh Scattering technique to measure the self diffusion constant of the two separate species of charged polystyrene spheres mixed in a strongly interacting suspension. For a few large spheres diffusing in a larger density of smaller spheres, we find that the diffusion constant is simply related by Stokes law to the total viscosity of the suspension. For the same relative number of spheres the small spheres see each other as discrete particles and do not follow Stokes law with the total viscosity. In the opposite limit of a few small spheres in a sea of large spheres, we find that the self diffusion of the two species are equal. This implies that the dynamics of the small spheres are governed by the motion of the large ones. J. Phys. France 49 (1988) 1043-1047 JUIN 1988,

Rotational tracer diffusion in binary colloidal sphere mixtures.
We demonstrate that tracer/host size asymmetry and electrostatic interactions strongly affect rotational self-diffusion in binary mixtures of charged colloidal tracer and host spheres. Tracer diffusion coefficients, measured with time-resolved phosphorescence anisotropy, are compared with calculations of rotational diffusion including two- and three-particle hydrodynamic interactions. We also s...
متن کاملSelf–similar and Charged Radiating Spheres: an Anisotropic Approach
Considering charged fluid spheres as anisotropic sources and the diffusion limit as the transport mechanism, we suppose that the inner space– time admits self–similarity. Matching the interior solution with the Reissner– Nordström–Vaidya exterior one, we find an extremely compact and oscillatory final state with a redistribution of the electric charge function and non zero pressure profiles.
متن کاملSelf–similar and charged spheres in the diffusion approximation
We study spherical, charged and self–similar distributions of matter in the diffusion approximation. We propose a simple, dynamic but physically meaningful solution. For such a solution we obtain a model in which the distribution becomes static and changes to dust. The collapse is halted with damped mass oscillations about the absolute value of the total charge.
متن کاملLong-time dynamics of concentrated charge-stabilized colloids.
Dynamic light scattering was used to study the dynamic structure factor, S(q,t), of suspensions of charged colloidal silica spheres over the full colloidal time range. We show that a dynamic scaling relation for S(q,t) found by Segrè and Pusey [Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 771 (1996)10.1103/PhysRevLett.77.771] for hard spheres, relating long-time and short-time dynamics, and collective and self-diffusi...
متن کاملNormal solution and transport coefficients to the Enskog-Landau kinetic equation for a two-component system of charged hard spheres. The Chapman-Enskog method
An Enskog-Landau kinetic equation for a many-component system of charged hard spheres is proposed. It has been obtained from the Liouville equation with modified boundary conditions by the method of nonequilibrium statistical operator. On the basis of this equation the normal solutions and transport coefficients such as bulk κ and shear η viscosities, thermal conductivity λ, mutual diffusion D ...
